Government Solar Scheme

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Everything a Haryana household needs to know about India's rooftop solar scheme — benefits, subsidy slabs, eligibility, documents and the step-by-step application process.

The Scheme

Free electricity up to 300 units every month

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a Government of India scheme (Ministry of New & Renewable Energy) that helps households install rooftop solar systems. In return, households get free electricity for up to 300 units per month — and any extra solar power exported to the grid earns credits on the electricity bill through net metering.

Free up to 300 units / month
Subsidy up to ₹78,000
Net metering credits
Panels last 25+ years
Subsidy at a Glance

Government subsidy, paid directly to your bank

The central subsidy is credited straight to the applicant's bank account (DBT) after installation, inspection and commissioning. Indicative slabs for residential rooftop systems:

1 kW

₹30,000 subsidy

Ideal for small homes and light loads.

2 kW

₹60,000 subsidy

Covers a typical household's daytime load.

3 kW

₹78,000 subsidy

Most popular size — up to 300 free units a month.

Systems up to 10 kW are covered by the scheme with additional slab rates. Subsidy rates follow the latest government benchmark costs and can be revised — always confirm the current slabs on the official portal before applying.

Who Can Apply

Eligibility for households

  • Residential consumers

The scheme is for homes — the applicant must have an existing electricity connection in the household's name.

  • System size 1–10 kW

Rooftop solar capacity between 1 kW and 10 kW is covered under the scheme.

  • Suitable rooftop

RCC or tin-shed roof with good, unobstructed sunlight through the day — confirmed during a free site visit.

  • Application on the portal

Apply through the national portal or your state DISCOM's portal with your consumer number and electricity bill — UHBVN portal ↗ (Hisar & North Haryana) or DHBVN portal ↗ (South Haryana) for net metering & service applications.

How It Works

Application process, step by step

  1. 1

    Register on the portal

Visit the official PM Surya Ghar portal, select your state and DISCOM, and register with your consumer number, mobile number and email.

  2. 2

    Choose a vendor & get a quote

Select a registered vendor from the portal's vendor list. A free site visit confirms feasibility, and the vendor shares the quotation.

  3. 3

    Installation

The vendor installs the rooftop system — panels, inverter, structure, wiring and earthing — using approved components.

  4. 4

    Inspection & net meter

The DISCOM inspects the installation, installs or replaces the net meter, and commissions the plant.

  5. 5

    Subsidy credited

Once commissioned, the subsidy amount is transferred directly to the applicant's bank account (DBT) within the scheme's timelines.

Documents

Keep these ready

BPL / Antyodaya Households · ₹50,000 state top-up on 2 kW

Haryana BPL solar top-up — a different application route

Besides the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the Government of Haryana provides an additional state top-up of ₹50,000 for a 2 kW system to Antyodaya / BPL households. Together with the central subsidy of ₹60,000, a 2 kW system attracts up to ₹1,10,000. In this category the DISCOM nominates the vendor and allots the capacity, so the process is not the same as a normal vendor booking.

What it means for an Antyodaya / BPL family

  • The central subsidy of ₹60,000 (2 kW) comes to your own bank account by DBT once the system is installed and inspected.
  • The state top-up of ₹50,000 (2 kW) is over and above the central amount and is governed by the state notification in force — take it to ₹1,10,000 in total.
  • Capacity is allotted through your DISCOM (DHBVN / UHBVN), which nominates the vendor for the job.
  • Category proof (Antyodaya / BPL card), Aadhaar, electricity connection and bank details are required, as in a normal application.

Please confirm the current amount and the vendor-allotment process at your DISCOM office before paying anyone. Scheme amounts and eligibility change by notification. EcoGrid supplies, installs and commissions the system and handles the paperwork once capacity is allotted to you.
